| Mock Mayors | |||
There is a tradition among many Cornish communities to elect a "Mock" or sham Mayor during festivals and feast days. The most famous of these was the Mayor of the Quay in Penzance who was and is elected during the Golowan festival to oversee the firey carnival. A mock mayor was also elected at Helston during the furry day proceedings, when Helston's feast day was reorganized by the Victorian establishment into its present form this seems to have been removed as does the large colourful processions that took place between dances.
(Penzance Mock Mayor 2008 - Mock Blair Aka John Brolly) Mock Mayors of Mylor, Polperro, Helgeover Moor, and Penryn are also recorded and several are still elected to this day.
