Cornish Heavy cake is a traditional delicacy associated with the Pilchard fishing industry. It was said that fish wives would wait on the cliff tops for the fishing vessels to find a Pilchard shoal. As they hauled the catch aboard they would cry "Hevva" which would be the que for the fisher wives to return home to start baking the "Hevva Cake".
