Good Friday in Cornwall was not kept a day of mourning but as a feast and was known as "Goody Friday". In West Cornwall it was, and is still common for young people to go on walks to recreational spots such as St. Michaels Mount and more popularly Lamorna. These walks are still undertaken by people of all ages and the Lamorna cliff path can also be particularly busy over the Easter period. In all Cornish communities the eating of cakes, buns and spiced breads was extremely popular, sometimes being sold at informal markets by local people such as the one that was held in Penzance near the Quay area. The Helford river is a favourite spot for gathering "Trigg Meat" IE Cornish dialect for the shell fish found at the point of low tide.
